About Lucas Ruggieri
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, illustrator and fine artist Lucas Ruggieri became immersed in the field of visual arts at an early age. After graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of the Arts in Manhattan, Lucas relocated to Savannah, Georgia in 2008, receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Centered around aesthetic and conceptual intricacy, Lucas’ work spans a wide range of media, focusing on the use of pen and ink, as well as various etching and
printmaking techniques. Through his manipulation of our most traditional modes of artistic production, Lucas constructs both pictorial and contextual narratives saturated in historical and contemporary subject matter. While his work is strongly grounded in the pictorial traditions of artists such as Albrecht Durer and Gustave Doré, his aphotic delineations examine our most dismal societal realities, contending our ideas of the human condition, our own mortality constantly in question. His labyrinthine illustrations defy spatial and proportional conventions; depictions of anthropomorphic creatures and cadaverous figures are amongst the many inhabitants of his behemothic yet contemplative landscapes.
