A proprietary blend of oils, binders, and premium pigments are used in every line of Koh-I-Noor colored pencils. The result is an ultra-smooth lead that allows for rich color and laydown without a waxy bloom or wax build up that prevents layering. We use California cedar for all of our artist-grade colored pencils. California cedar is not only a renewable resource, but is regarded as the best wood for pencils because it doesn't warp. Each core is perfectly centered in its casing for even sharpening, and glued throughout to prevent breakage. Our woodless pencils have a solid color core encased in lacquer, and offers the artist maximum color laydown. All of our pencils come pre-sharpened.

The soft pastel pencil is a medium made from pigment and soft binding agents, such as calcium carbonate, encased in wood. This creates a vivid, blendable color that is slightly harder than traditional pastels making them ideal for detail work. Our Artists' Drawing Pencils feature a range of sepia tones, blacks, white and charcoal pigmented instruments, and produce high quality chalk renderings. Artwork created with soft pastel & artists' drawing pencils is extremely fragile and often requires a finishing fixative to prevent the unwanted spread of the fine pigment particles. However, chalk and pastel paintings truly stand the test of time because they are made with a higher concentration of pure pigments than many other media, and thus maintain their brilliant quality.
